Today we continue with the final part of the series, in which we help you prepare for a test photo shoot.
In this episode, we will go through the entire day of shooting and what to expect while you are there.
Once you have prepared as recommended in the previous two episodes (part 1 and part 2), it is a good idea to arrive at the agreed location at least 10-15 minutes early on the day of the shoot. This makes a good impression of you as a person and a professional, but it will also be helpful if you are unfamiliar with the area or city and need to drive around to find the address or are delayed by traffic.
Secondly, upon arrival, it is a good idea to ask for some water, use the restroom, and sit down for a few minutes before the shoot begins to help you overcome any initial nervousness. In the meantime, talk to the photographer and ask what the plan is for the shoot. Usually, it takes some time for the photographers to set up their equipment, du
ring which time you can take some test shots before the actual session begins.
Once the equipment is set up and you move on to the first look, ask the photographer again for guidance — what kind of look they are going for, how they see you in the given concept, and so on. Photographers will let you know if they have any special requirements for lighting, style, or anything else.
Review your references and get inspired to do your best and create shots that will make it into your portfolio. Your portfolio is the material that will get you jobs, so try to create your best shots and give it your all.
Stay calm and repeat what you have already practiced at home, such as your look and modeling poses. Experiment with your actions, because test sessions are designed to help you prepare for real big commitments with clients on the big stage.
Good luck! A good model is a different model, remember that!
